The Primal Harvest

What to Expect

Primal Harvest is an immersive, small-group field-to-table gathering rooted in the full arc of the hunt—from the stillness of the woods to the shared meal at the table.

Over several days on a working horse farm in rural Ohio, participants are guided through the ethical harvest of whitetail deer, learning not just how to hunt, process, and prepare game, but how to do so with patience, humility, and respect.

❋ Woodsmanship

Woodsmanship, tracking basics, and ethical decision-making in the field

❋ Shooting skills

Shot placement, recovery, and field dressing

❋ Game meat processing

Whole-animal butchery: breaking down a deer with care and efficiency

❋ Fine Dining

Each day closes not with instruction, but with nourishment. Guests are served thoughtfully prepared, fine-dining–level meals built around wild game and seasonal ingredients—meals that honor the animal by using it well, not hiding it.

Field-to-Table

Evenings are spent in a restored log cabin built in 1802, warmed by wood heat and conversation. The cabin sits on a historic horse farm—quiet, working land where rhythms still matter. There is space here for story, reflection, and rest.

“Eating with the fullest pleasure—pleasure, that is, that does not depend on ignorance—is perhaps the profoundest enactment of our connection with the world." - Wendell Berry

Who is this for?

Primal Harvest is for those who want to move beyond abstraction:

  • Beyond “farm-to-table” as a slogan

  • Beyond hunting as conquest or content

  • Beyond consuming food without relationship

No prior hunting experience is required. Only a willingness to learn, to be patient, and to participate fully.
